Job Summary
UCSF Fresno Facilities Operations provides support to the Fresno Campus and its users in providing services in the areas of engineering, maintenance, custodial, grounds, waste management, meeting/event management and transportation. Fresno Facilities works closely with local UCSF Fresno environmental health and safety and security services to provide a healthy and safe environment for our learners, staff, and faculty. The UCSF Fresno Regional Campus is an educational and clinical branch campus of UCSF that is in the Central San Joaquin Valley and is administered by the Office of the Associate Dean in Fresno. UCSF Fresno is focused on improving health in California's San Joaquin Valley through excellence in medical education (physician training) and patient care and innovative clinical research and community partnerships. The UCSF Fresno Regional Campus supports 9 residency programs, 17 fellowship programs, 3 PA programs, the SJV Prime and SJV Prime+ medical student program and several pipeline programs.
Under the general direction of the General Services Operations Manager, the Groundskeeper/Landscaper (Grounds and Recycle duties) located in Fresno will perform general groundskeeping duties, and refuse sorting, loading dock maintenance and material data collection. This function directly works toward reducing the percentage of material UCSF sends to landfill as is in line with UCSF carbon neutrality goals. This position is expected to perform assignments under various weather conditions and various terrains, including stairs, sidewalk, hills, slopes, and rocky foot paths.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current California Driver's License
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in sorting, recycling, compost, and landfill materials or comparable experience
  • Working knowledge of water management and irrigation repair
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic calculations; two years of experience in the performance of semi-skilled building maintenance work, or one year as a Building Maintenance Worker; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to deliver high quality customer service and to respond to the customer's needs
  • Ability to kneel, stoop, and stand for long periods of time
  • Climb and work on extension ladder
  • Ability to perform work on schedule in a safe and timely manner
  • Ability to work without direct supervision and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated experience safely operating and maintaining power tools Preferred Qualifications
    • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in general groundskeeping/landscape maintenance
    • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English with customers and department staff at all levels
    • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions in English
    • Demonstrated knowledge of ornamental and California native plants
