The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate students, conduct scholarly and applied research, and engage in service-related activities. Primary teaching responsibilities and scholarly activities will be in the area of Flute instruction and Flute ensemble, with a secondary focus such as, but not limited to; Music Theory, Ear Training, Music History, Music Appreciation, Music Technology, World Music, or another area of expertise. Other teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on background with a secondary area of focus that aligns with the candidate's skills, interests, and the Department's needs. Active recruitment of flute students and building the flute studio is expected. The successful candidate is expected to maintain a positive relationship with music educators in the region, including active participation in local, regional, state, and national music organizations. Typical workload is 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs) per semester, generally comprising 12 WTUs of instruction and 3 WTUs of non-instructional responsibilities, including departmental, college, and university committee service. Service learning, student learning outcomes, and assessments are important components of the university curriculum. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with faculty and staff. The masters and/or the doctorate must be in Flute Performance. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for an appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2021. Required Experience:Documented teaching experience of flute at the undergraduate level or equivalent. Active as an accomplished professional flutist with demonstrable expertise and experience as a soloist and ensemble member. A well-articulated agenda for research, scholarship, and creative activity in flute. Demonstrable organizational and communication skills necessary to excel in an academic setting and to recruit flute students. Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred Experience:Documented teaching experience of flute at the undergraduate level or equivalent for a minimum of two years. Documented teaching experience of any of the following, including but not limited to; Music Theory, Ear Training, Music History, Music Appreciation, Music Technology, World Music, or another area of expertise; at the undergraduate level or equivalent. Documented performance and coaching experience of chamber ensemble at the undergraduate level or secondary school. Documented involvement in local, regional, state, national, and/or international music organizations such as, but not limited to, the National Flute Association and other associated professional organizations.
