Senior Heavy Equipment Operator SALARY: $5,599 - $6,805/mo. FILING DEADLINE: Midnight-04/08/2021 Position Description Senior Heavy Equipment Operator is the advanced working/lead class in the Heavy Equipment Operator series. Incumbents operate various types of construction, agriculture, and related equipment and provides lead direction to other workers engaged in the operation of similar equipment. Experience using a backhoe, motor grader, dozer, and paddle wheel scrapper is desirable. Multiple vacancies currently exist within the Public Utilities and Public Works Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months. Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule RETIREMENT : Fresno City Retirement System, one of the best funded public systems in the state. Reciprocity with other public California systems. The Requirements Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications on or before the posted filing deadline in order to qualify for the examination. Four (4) years of experience in the operation of construction, agriculture and related equipment with complex operating requirements. Must possess a valid Commercial Class A California's Driver's License, or equivalent, at time of application. Must obtain a Commercial Class A California Driver's License with tank endorsement, and without airbrake, transmission or fifth wheel restrictions by time of appointment and must maintain the appropriate license for the entire term of employment in this class. This classification is subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout entire term of employment in this class. Selection Process The selection process may consist of the following: Written Examination - 100%: The written examination is designed to assess a candidate's knowledge of the care, use and operation of construction, agricultural and related equipment, ability to plan, layout, organize, assign, train and provide lead direction for the work of one or more crews, keep accurate records and establish and maintain effective working relations. The written examination has been tentatively scheduled for the week of April 19, 2021. V eteran's Preference Regulations Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested.
