access to your earnings! Job Summary The MDS Nurse employs
independent judgment to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the
activities of both professional and support nursing staff involved
in resident care plans. This role includes assessing the care
provided to each resident and ensuring that care plans are
up-to-date. The MDS Nurse leads the Resident Assessment Instrument
(RAI) process and assists in evaluating potential admissions. Upon
admission, as well as quarterly and annually, the MDS Nurse
conducts resident assessments. Collaboration with residents,
families, advocates, and interdisciplinary colleagues, including
healthcare providers, is essential to ensure the highest quality of
life for each resident. When working on the floor, the Registered
Nurse (RN) is responsible for applying the nursing process
(assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation)
to deliver personalized nursing care to patients. The RN
demonstrates proficiency and operates within the full scope of
nursing knowledge, adhering to age and population-specific
standards relevant to their clinical setting. Responsibilities
include caring for residents across all phases of preventive care,
health maintenance, diagnosis, and treatment, as well as
coordinating care, conducting assessments, providing education, and
implementing various nursing interventions. The RN may also take on
the role of charge nurse, delegating appropriate tasks to both
licensed and unlicensed assistive personnel, ensuring that these
tasks align with job descriptions, skills, resident care needs, and
the competence of the delegate. As a charge nurse, the RN provides
necessary support and guidance to ensure safe and effective
resident care and addresses any service concerns. The RN operates
within the guidelines and standards of nursing practice as defined
by the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in the state of
practice and licensure. Professional nursing practice acknowledges
the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for
Nurses with Interpretive Statements as established by the American
Nurses Association, serving as the foundation for nursing care
delivery and professional behavior. Qualifications Graduation from
a nursing program accredited by the National League of Nursing
(NLN) or the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) is
preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree in nursing is also preferred. A
minimum of one year of experience as a licensed nurse working with
the senior population is preferred. Specific roles may have
additional educational, training, or experience requirements.
Resident Assessment Coordinator-Certified (RAC-CT) certification,
along with management or supervisory experience, is preferred. Must
hold an unencumbered RN license from the State Board of Nursing
where practice occurs, or possess multistate licensure if in a
Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Required certifications must
be obtained and maintained, along with completion of necessary
continuing education units (CEUs) and competency training.
Affiliation with an external professional nursing organization is
