Job Description:
HELIX Environmental Planning, Inc. (HELIX), a growing,
employee-owned California-based environmental consulting and
planning firm, is currently seeking a Cultural Resources Project
Manager to supplement the high-quality consultant team in our
northern California offices. HELIX offers environmental, cultural
resources, biological, acoustical, air quality, and GIS services to
both the public and private sectors. Our Cultural Resources Group
performs all types of cultural resources studies for a wide range
of project types throughout California.
The successful applicant must be a Registered Professional
Archaeologist or have met the necessary educational and experience
requirements to quickly obtain this certification. The selected
individual will be responsible for managing cultural resources
studies for small to large projects, conducting and/or oversight of
research, field surveys, data recovery and analysis operations, and
mitigation monitoring programs; report and site record preparation;
coordination with other cultural resources and environmental
planning staff and subconsultants; proposal preparation and
business development; and interaction with clients and reviewing
agencies.
The Cultural Resources Project Manager position requires an
individual with a minimum of five years of archaeological
experience, including experience managing the work of other
archaeologists on projects. Candidates must possess excellent
written and verbal communication skills and analytical abilities
and be experienced in the preparation of a variety of cultural
resources technical reports, including reports in conformance with
California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Section 106 of the
National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Experience with a variety of
infrastructure and development project types, document types, and
private sector/public agency clients is desirable. The applicant
must have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and experience
working in a team-oriented environment. Knowledge of the
prehistoric and historic archaeology of northern and central
California is required.

Minimum Requirements for Cultural Resources Project Manager:
-- Master's Degree in archaeology, anthropology, history, or
closely related field with a concentration in archaeology
-- Registered Professional Archaeologist or meets the necessary
educational and experience requirements to quickly obtain this
certification
-- Minimum of five years of demonstrated experience in archaeology
that includes field surveys, data recovery, preparation of
California Department of Parks and Recreation 523-series forms,
preparation of proposals and archaeological studies/reports and
experience with agency consultation/coordination
-- Experience providing services in compliance with the federal and
California laws and regulations pertaining to historic and
archaeological resource management.
-- Experience in the study of northern and central California
prehistoric and historic archaeology
-- Experience coordinating with local Tribal representatives,
resulting in positive Tribal relationships
-- Strong research, technical writing, organizational, and verbal
communication skills
-- Ability to work independently with considerable
responsibility
Additional skills/accomplishments considered a plus:
-- Knowledge of local agency guidelines for CEQA compliance,
including guidelines pertaining to the completion of cultural
resource studies
-- Specialized field and/or laboratory skills, such as
geoarchaeology, flaked- or ground-stone analysis, shell analysis,
or ceramic analysis
-- Experience with GPS technology and field data collection
-- Existing client relationships
-- Past experience with agency coordination/communication
