Job Description:

Directs, manages, and plans all aspects of Patient Safety, Risk Management and Regulatory Compliance. Responsible for organization-wide patient safety/risk management programs including administering the patient safety /risk management program on a day-to-day basis, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management educational programs, working with other Patient Safety organizations and complying with risk management related standards by the Joint Commission. Works with facility administration, departments, and the medical staff to monitor and evaluate the safety of patient care services within the organization. Also ensures proper compliance with regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, corporate hospital policies and procedures and works to develop, implement, and maintain risk assessment and mitigation programs within the organization. Participates in reserve setting discussions with legal counsel, assists legal counsel and ensures managing claims against the facility, all with the objective of controlling and minimizing loss to protect the assets of the facility. Responsible for helping to create an environment of Just Culture that enables the organization to fulfill its mission by meeting or exceeding its goals, facilitating staff accountability for their performance, and motivating staff to improve their performance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in a healthcare related field and 7 yearsAccountabilities Analyzes, selects, implements and evaluates programs necessary to support the strategic direction of the CMC patient safety/risk management programs. Represents the CMC management, committees and outside entities. Collaborates with other programs or outside entities as necessary to support and enhance CMC mission and goals. Establishes policies, procedures and practices necessary for the effective and efficient human resource, business and regulatory operations of the patient safety/risk management programs. Ensures these policies, procedures and practices are in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations. Develops, implements and maintains the annual operating budget ensuring that the operations are managed within the established guidelines. Oversees supervision and coordination of the patient safety/risk management department and staff. Provides tools and developmental opportunities for staff that are necessary for performance consistent with CMCs mission and vision. Markets and promotes patient safety/risk management programs. Manages and enhances effective relations with customer base. Coordinates benchmarking activities associated with projects. Prepares suggested action plans and tracks plans for improvement. Directly responsible (with support from Human Resources) for employee engagement and people management processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development, employee retention, disciplinary actions and terminations. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related field required
  • Master's Degree in a healthcare related field preferred Experience
    • 7 years of experience in the healthcare or informatics fields required
    • Previous employment in a highly confidential position within a Patient Safety, Risk Management or Regulatory Compliance department required
    • Hospital, healthcare or not-for-profit industry experience preferred Licenses and Certifications
      • RN - Current State of California Registered Nurse license required or
      • CPHQ - Certified Professional Healthcare Quality required or
      • CPHRM - Certified Healthcare Risk Management required Please note: Per the CDPH order, all healthcare workers are required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 or have an approved exemption and test regularly.
