Director of Optometry Operations Job Locations US-CA-Fresno Posted Date 2 weeks ago (3/23/2021 9:49 AM) Job ID 2021-1997 # of Openings 1 Category Optometry Overview The Director of Optometry Operations reports directly to the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and provides oversight of the UHC optometry department operations at all optometry sites. This position is expected to guide the coordination of multiple optometry departments (all optometry sites); will support the optometry team (providers, optical technicians, and front office staff); will serve as a senior leader and mentor for the Health Center Management teams; will assist in directing the implementation of new programs, staff functions, and training systems that will enhance and improve patient care, quality improvement outcomes, productivity, and decrease costs without sacrificing patient satisfaction for the optometry program at UHC.-- Responsibilities The position will work closely with the Health Center Managers and Optometry Director. This position will oversee all Optometry Staff. Additionally, this position will:

  • Provide guidance and oversight of health center optometry operations
  • Provide, create, and implement written policies and procedures in collaboration with the Optometry Director.
  • Provide direct supervision of Optometry support staff.
  • Assess health center optometry operations for efficiency and quality improvement.
  • Work closely with Optometry Director to improve operations and address issues as they arise.
  • Attend outside meetings and represents UHC at public and professional meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Assist in developing patient service procedures and protocols and ensure consistency throughout UHC in regards to the optometry program at all sites.
  • Administer and oversee health center support staff evaluations
  • Participates in site review inspections and audits.
  • Implement changes or new workflow practices as a result of Quality Improvement audits.
  • Coordinate learning and development initiatives at the health center optometry departments.
  • Oversee and provide training and orientation for Optometry support Staff.
  • Ensure that quality of work is error-free and complete by monitoring accuracy. This would include regular audits of staff work and process review of productivity and establishing department metrics and goals.--
  • Effectively interface with other departments within the corporation to ensure operational success of the optometry program.--
  • Support the work of the Optometry Director by managing multiple projects and to meet deadlines. --PERFORMANCE AREA 1: Health Center Performance:--Responsible for working with the site management team and the executive and senior leadership teams to develop and implement organizational strategies, policies and practices.--
    • Review provider schedules and use the Optometry Scheduling Template to ensure appropriate scheduling compliance with UHC directives.--
    • Coach and mentor health center staff to ensure that they are able to support the optometry operational goals of the health center.
    • Work closely with optometry staff to ensure smooth intake and registration of optometry patients to provide a smooth patient flow and the efficient delivery of services.
    • Provide structured training and orientation for all UHC Optometry support staff.--
    • Assess health center operations to identify administrative issues and work closely with the Optometry Director to identify clinical issues and recommend potential solutions aimed at improving patient and staff satisfaction.
    • Represent the health center as needed at public and professional meetings and conferences as required. This extends to attending outside meetings as requested.
    • Work with outreach personnel to participate in outreach and community events designed to strengthen community awareness of the organization.
    • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and serve as a liaison to the executive leadership team and the Health Center Site Management.
    • Participate with the Executive Leadership Team for long term strategic planning, optometry program development, and policy and procedure formulation and revision.
    • Work closely with the Optometry Director in developing patient service procedures and protocols and ensure for the optometry program at all sites.
    • Recommend staffing levels of Optometry support staff, participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of all Optometry support staff. Hire all support staff.
    • Work with the Optometry Director to coordinate staff coverage to ensure that all sites are adequately staffed on a daily basis.
    • Coordinate and participate in taskforces and committees as needed.
    • Provide development and mentoring of support staff. Provide disciplinary or performance improvement feedback both verbally and written as needed.
    • Responsible for oversight of Optometry Pre-Authorization and Specialty referral process.--
    • Establish good working relationship with all optometry providers.
    • Assist Billing Team with optometry corrections on a daily basis and at the end-of-month close. Qualifications EDUCATION:
      • Requires a B.S. Degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field. Masters degree preferred. Previous managerial experience with optometry operations preferred. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
        • Possess a valid driver's license PRIOR EXPERIENCE:
          • Five to eight (5-8) years experience in health care management preferred. SKILLS:
            • Strong critical thinking skills and problem solving skills.
            • Excellent verbal and writing skills
            • Strong history of project management. Ability to establish goals, timelines, and action plans.
            • Able to quickly build and maintain rapport with patients and providers of differing backgrounds; team player
            • Customer-service oriented
            • Modern office practices and procedures including (Outlook).
            • Strong computer skills (expert level): including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
            • Familiar with adult learning and general training techniques
            • Positive professional insight
            • Flexibility and dependability
            • Demonstrated good problem-solving skills; sound judgment
            • Effective leadership/supervisory skills
            • Attention to detail and excellent follow-through on work tasks
