SUMMARY
Betts manufacturing divisions are ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015
certified businesses. We are looking for a quality engineer to
monitor and improve the quality of our operational processes and
outputs. This team member will participate in continuous
improvement activities to enhance production and support processes.
The quality engineer will provide support for and facilitate ISO
certification efforts for all relevant Betts locations. As a
representative of Betts the quality engineer will represent the
organization in a manner consistent with The Betts Way.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement quality standards.
Develop and implement quality control systems.
Monitor and analyze quality performance.
Inspect and test materials, equipment, processes, and products to
ensure quality specifications are met.
Collaborate with operations managers to develop and implement
controls and improvements.
Ensure that workflows, processes, and products comply with safety
regulations.
Investigate and troubleshoot product or production issues.
Develop corrective actions, solutions, and improvements.
Review and interpret codes, specifications, and processes.
Determine quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical
methods relevant to manufacturing processes.
Establish statistical confidence by identifying sample size and
acceptable error, and determining levels of confidence.
Develop experiments by applying full and fractional factorial
techniques.
Develop sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and
sequential sampling methods.
Maintain statistical process controls.
Analyze data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and
process capability analysis tests.
Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; and
making recommendations.
Visit and confer with representatives of material and component
vendors to obtain evaluate and maintain supply quality, capacity of
vendor to meet orders, and vendor quality standards.
Monitor supplier quality performance and work with suppliers to
meet quality and productivity goals.
Interface with customers and suppliers to resolve quality problems.
Maintain and analyzes customer scorecards.
Monitor warranty and customer quality resolution process involving
the necessary departments and
recommend and support accurate resolution.
Support calibration activities
Ability to design, write, revise and implement and train quality
control programs and operator work
instructions to personnel in conjunction with managers.
Assist in internal and external audit processes for all divisions
and locations operating under ISO
standards.
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending
educational workshops, reviewing professional publications,
establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art
practices, and participating in professional societies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no direct supervisory responsibility. Responsible
for directing and mentoring quality technicians to facilitate the
functions of the Quality team.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to
perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience with
programming and operation of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM),
inspection of machine components, and performance of gage R&R
studies preferred. The requirements listed below are representative

Experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a similar
role.
Experience coding and using QA software tools and processes.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and
management, both internal and external
Capacity to work independently from general supervision (must be
self-motivated once given direction/guidance)
Excellent organization skills with the ability to perform multiple
tasks and obtain results working within strict time frames
Strong attention to detail
Proficient in MS Office software including Word, Excel, Outlook,
and PowerPoint
Ability to read and interpret assembly and component drawings and
engineering specifications
CAD Data Analysis (measurement & manipulation) (SolidWorks
preferred)
Basic knowledge of operating measurement equipment (CMM
preferred)
Good knowledge of manufacturing processes
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from four-year college or
university; or three to five years related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education
and experience. Degree in engineering preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and
technical data. Familiar with analytical
techniques. Cause and effect analysis, X bar & R charting,
histograms, etc. Ability to respond to common
inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or
members of the business community.
Ability to effectively present information to employees, customers,
vendors, management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents,
logarithms, and quadratic equations and permutations. Ability to
apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency
distribution, determination of test reliability and validity,
analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and
factor analysis.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of
technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal
with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
ASQ certified (preferred)
Ability to receive and maintain ISO 9001 Lead Auditor
certification.

occasionally exposed to high temperatures when working near
furnaces and ovens, heat treated steel product, moving mechanical
parts and outside weather conditions.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Safety
glasses and steel toe shoes required.
Other protective equipment may be required depending on
operation.
